The city that never sleeps

According to Gus, that city is Minot.

He has recently decided that sleeping on his regular schedule is ridiculous. Especially while in Minot, the land of grandparents. Below is a quick recap, in pictures, of his 5-day stay.

Enjoying some late-night reading with his Uncle Kyle.

He ran hills with his Gpa Steve.

He was in heaven when he saw the newest addition to his Gpa Dave and Gma Vickie's backyard - a sandbox!
He pretended to drive a real Bobcat while visiting his Great Uncle Todd's shop.

I had to include this photo because it cracks me up. It seems as if he's posing for a senior portrait or an ad for Yamaha or something. Nice pose!

One of the highlights of his Minot trip was a visit to Sofie's farm. She has everything. He loved it. He loved it so much he nearly squeezed the guts out of this poor baby duckling.

Gma Vickie had to teach him how to hold the duck with a gentle touch.

Sofie is mastering her bike riding skills.

And while she was doing that, Gus took the opportunity to drive her John Deere tractor all over the yard. Steering and turning? Still working on that.

He thought this horse swing in a tree was amazing. Being we are from Fargo, he was simply impressed with seeing a tree.

Here's a shot of them waiting for the real entertainment of the day....

A pony! It's true, Sofie has a pony and Spirit is her name.

What kid hasn't dreamt of having their own pony to love, care for, and ride?

And feed.
He wishes he lived on a farm after visiting Sofie. What a great day that was.

He continued to feel the love and shared it with his cousin Hava when she arrived that afternoon from Boston. We all wish they lived closer, but because they don't, we soaked up every moment we could while we were all together in Minot. It was fun to have a long weekend, together, with our tots.

Hava continues to get cuter and more precious with age. She was 1 the end of April and now motors around like a pro.

We bribed Gus to behave, smile, and take this photo with his cousin Will. He did good, so he was able to enjoy a treat shortly after this photo was snapped. Will did not require any bribing.

He has just began smiling. Awww, I love that stage but who wouldn't.

He's a very good baby.

We hit the zoo. Gus was a little leery of the bears while they were having a bear spat (which is very loud by the way), so he took shelter with his Gpa Dave.

Hava thought the Minot zoo was pretty good.

And now to one of my favorite memories of this trip to Minot: the ol' the-bathtub-is-running-but-the-door-is-locked portion of this post makes me smile. In typical crazy-fashion at my parents house, everyone was running in one direction or another as we were getting the kids ready for a bath. Somehow, the door got locked, and then pulled shut as the bathtub was running. Ahhh, let's just say when the news broke, there were only a few of us laughing. I will admit, I was one of them.

Did I mention the AC broke the same afternoon? If you could zoom in on this photo you would see these men were sweating while they worked to break the door down.

Shoot, no problem. An inch to spare.

Here's Great-Gma Ethel with her great-grand kids, each showing their own personalities at such an early age.

Lunch bunch - cousin-style.

Paparazzi.
Our family, all good folks!

You have to snap fast to capture these kids.

I dream of a day when we can live in the same city, a compromise in the middle, maybe Chicago? Until then, we will let Gus and Hava play on Skype.

Thank you so much for hosting us while we were in Minot, Gmas and Gpas. I think next year Gus may be ready for the week-long stay in Minot, splitting time between all his grandparents. That is, after we master this sleeping thing again. So much for enjoying long nights of sleep prior to baby #2. On the bright side, we are ready for sleepness nights.

Gus' homeland

We took a weekend trip back to Gus' original homeland, MN. He loved spending time with Gabby and many of our fellow MN friends. We did, too.

Gus and Gabby jumped on the bed, then crashed.

This was their morning routine: cartoons in bed while the rest of us got ready for the day.

Our outdoor plans were canceled due to cold and rain, so we went to the mall. Gabby had fun despite the look of terror on her face in this shot.

Gus loved this roller coaster simulator ride.

But his favorite was the dance, dance game.

He was dangerously quiet one afternoon, so I went to check on him in Gab's playroom. I was pleasantly surprised to see him tending to one of Gabby's babies. Correction, I was shocked to see him tending to this baby. Maybe it's sinking in that he gets one of these babies in a couple months.

This is just cute.

Park time!
Gus pretended to be spider-man while climbing the rope ladder.

Gabby has no fear and marched all over that playground.

And hung (and fell) from the rings like it was nothing.

Here's the kid's table at our MN picnic. Clockwise: Gabby, Gus, Carson, and Ashton.

On our way back to ND, we stopped to visit our friends Carin and Alex in their new home. Gus posed with their 2 sweet kids, Anders and Carter.

Another great weekend. Thank you for hosting, Goins!

Growing like a weed

Here's an up-to-date photo of our nephew, Will. He is 1-month old and changing everyday.

El Crabbo

Ross' cousin, Laura, stopped by on Saturday for a visit. She brought the coolest thing ever for Gus to become obsessed with - a hermit crab.

And this was no ordinary hermit crab, it was bejeweled and looking nice. Gus loved it. And it was fun to catch up with Laura.

Cousins at the zoo

We met Christy and Will at the zoo today - it was great. Will loved his first outing at the zoo, and can't you tell by his excitement over the carousel?

He was a perfect boy and slept the entire time.

Long-distance relationship, rekindled

Gus got to spend some time with one of his best girls, Ava, last weekend. She and her family, mom-Rachel, dad-Mike, were up from Omaha visiting. As always, we wished they still lived in Fargo.

Friends, friends, friends.

They challenged each other to find the most perfect leaf.

Thanks to the Skunbergs for hosting this kid-friendly BBQ. Sorry about the pooping of the pants there at the end (we're still mastering potty-training). Good thing Ava didn't see that one, that could have been embarrassing.
